Decor Blocks - The "Must Have Item" for Every Home

Decorating your home with Décor Accent Blocks makes your space truly unique. Would you like to personalize your blocks but aren’t sure how to do it? Schedule a one on one class with me and we will decorate your blocks together.

Keri Beilman fell in love with the idea of putting her pictures on blocks instead of frames and last Friday, we rolled up our sleeves and worked our paper crafting magic. We had a blast and here are some of the pictures from our session:

The blocks we started with:

The blocks after we finished:

Aren’t these blocks amazing? Keri is a professional photographer (check out her site) and she gave me some great suggestions on improving shooting my pictures for this blog.  For more pictures of all six sides, click here.

As each block has six sides, we decorated six sides but the combinations on how you arrange your decor blocks in combination with each other is only limited by your imagination.

These blocks make a great gift but I will guarantee that once you make a set, you will not want to give it away. You can

This two hour session is priced at $35 and includes the décor blocks and all crafting supplies. You bring the pictures and I provide the rest.

As always, I am only an email or a phone call away. Contact me today!

RUDOLPH WITH CANDY CANE ANTLERS

I have done it again.  My plan for last week was to was to make Christmas cards and share pictures but instead I’ve been making gift items.  In my defense, I can say that my reindeer with the red M&M nose and candy canes for antlers are adorable.  What do you think?

This little reindeer is a perfect gift for teachers, principals, bus drivers, neighbors, …, simply for EVERYONE. He is sure to put a smile on everyone’s face. His face is made with the Top Note Big Shot Die and of course, the nose is one of Stampin’ Up!’s popular Sweet Treat Cups. A few round punches complete the magic.

In my version, the front flips up (like a card but I have to take the candy cane antlers out first) and I have the same sliding door behind the sweet treat cup as I made for the turkey (see the video on the turkey for instructions). Then I added a little box on the inside to the back to hold the candy canes so they don’t slip through.

Would you like to make one with me in my Stamping Studio?

If you are in Wichita, just give me a call to set a time to come by and make one with me. Remember to call me at 305-5207 to enter my Spunky Stamping Heaven!

Supplies to make your Candy Cane Rudolph

Cardstock – Early Espresso, Whisper White, Basic Black
Punches – Circles: 1 ¾” for nose, 1 ¼” for the white in eyes, 1” for pupils
White Gel Pen
Big Shot & Top Note Die

As I said, if you are local, call me to come make one with me. If you are out of town, send me an email and I will shot a video to show you how to make these cute fellows.  I aim to please and your request will be my command.

ISLE CARD Tutorial (yes, we like instructions)

Here is my Christmas card that I am mailing to Germany this week.  I love using isle cards for my family pictures because my Grandfather never has to worry about finding or getting a frame to display the picture.  He just stands up the card and we can smile for him all day.

Isle cards are much simpler than they look and I’ve got some easy step by step instructions for you.  You can make them all sizes: square, portrait or landscape shape and the sizing is easy to adjust for each.

CUTTING AND SCORING YOUR CARDSTOCK

Cut and score your cardstock to your card size.

My card is going to be 5 ½ inches by 4 ¼ inches and the shape is landscape. So my CS measures 8 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches and is scored at 4 1/4 inches for the “regular score” line. My second score line is half the distance of 4 ¼ which makes it 2 1/8.

If you want your card to be 5 ½ inches by 4 ¼ inches but have it oriented as “portrait” then your CS needs to be 11 inches by 4 ¼ inches and your first score line is at 5 ½ inches and your second score line is at 2 ¾ inches.

If your card is supposed to be a 4 inch square card, then your CS measures 4 by 8 and the first score line is at 4 inches and the second at 2 inches.

Can you see the pattern?

FOLD YOUR SCORE LINES

The pictures are better than a thousand words.

ATTACH YOUR CARD FRONT

Attach a second piece of cardstock that has the same size as your card front. Use your favorite strong adhesive on the lower half of your card front as shown in the picture. If you plan on embellishing your card front you probably want to do that before this step. That way you can run the ribbons all the way around or tuck the edges neatly. You can also hid the back sides or your brads or eylets.

WHY DOES MY CARD FRONT KEEP SCOOTING AWAY?

Your card should look like this and will need to have something to keep the upstanding part straight. When you embellish the lower part of your card, Stampin’ Dimensionals help keep your upright front straight. You can also use buttons or other embellishments as “place keepers.”

THE FINAL PRODUCT

Are you ready to make lots of these cards now? Jump right in. I guarantee that you will cause smiles all over when people open your cards. I will admit that when I sent this type of card to my Grandfather for the first time, I took a picture before I mailed it and emailed that picture to my Mom to show her how the card props itself up when you raise the front and tuck it under the embellishment or raised paper. I always make isle cards with the school pictures of my girls.

If you have any problems, questions, or if you want these instructions as a pdf file for yourself, please leave me a comment to this post or email me at tanja@spunkycards.com and I’ll get that out to you.

Decorate your Thanksgiving table with these adorable turkeys filled with candy.  Add a name for place tags or use them as napkin toppers.

These little turkeys have a double back and slider so that you can get to the candy easily. This makes the turkeys reusable for many Thanksgiving dinners to come.

To make the turkeys you need the following tools:

Scallop Circle Punch 2 3/8"
1 ¾ Circle Punch
1 ¼ Circle PunchOval Punch 1 ¾ by 7/8 “
Sweet Treat Cups
Label Punch (optional)
Big Shot & Top Note Die (optional)

I’ve filmed a video for you to see step by step how to make the turkey from beginning to end including the inside slider to fill and empty the candy. It’s about 8 minutes long so pull up a chair and a cup of coffee and make lots of turkeys with me.

Order your sweet treat cup and punches today to have them in time for Thanksgiving. Click here for my online store. Don’t forget to leave me a comment if you enjoy this post and please do pass my blog on to friends and family.

Trick or Treat at school

It is finally time for Courtney's fall class party and I am prepared with some awsome 4th grade treats:

The stamp set is "Batty for You" and is a favorite for Halloween.  I used card stock to match the M&M's that are in the chemistry tubes.  The colors are Green Gallore (retired), Marina Mist, Pumpkin Pie, Riding Hood Red, and Basic Black.

The  punches are various circles and of course the new Circle Scallop Punch.  If you need  supplies or ideas for your fall projects, contact me today.

Happy Halloween!

DRESS UP YOUR DRINK

The weekend is here and here is my suggestion for a little relaxation:
DRESS UP YOUR DRINK!
My girls were so sweet and brought me a milk shake to my stamping corner and before I could take a single sip, I ran some paper through my Big Shot with the Island Floral Bigz Die (118871) to create the beautiful flowers that I pulled my straw through. I just had to share it with you and so before I took my first drink, I took a quick picture for you.

This is the same die that is responsible for these adorable flowers: Call or email me today to get your die or order it online 24/7 (click shop now in the top right corner).

Thanking Room Moms with Sweet Flowers

This weekend, I made 30 sweet treat cup flowers for my good friend, Traci. She heads up the room moms for her son's elementary school and with the school year ending, she wanted to have a special thank you for each of her room moms.
The sweet treat cups are filled with mini M&M's. Aren't they great? Stop by my SU! online store and order some for thank you projects. SU! also has heart shaped treat cups that are absolutely adorable. Click here to check them out.
As always, don't have too much fun stamping without me! Tanja

Gift Boxes: Rudolph

As promised, here is the video on how I make my Rudolph boxes. I've got four Rudolph boxes sitting on the mantel of my fire place right now. I can't wait to fill them with cookies, hot chocolate pouches and other holiday treats. They make such cute Christmas presents!!!

If you don't have the Big Shot but want to make your own Rudolph boxes, you can order Rudolp as a kit from me. The kit includes:

paper for the box - prescored as shown in the video

2 top note pieces, one with hole already prepunched

2 antlers

sweet treat cup

paper circles for eyes - already punched

paper circle for eye lids

You need:

  1. Adhesive to glue the box (I used sticky strip) and adhesive to attach the sweet treat cup (I used snail adhesive) and eyes and antlers (I used the 2 way glue pen).
  2. Scissors.
  3. Stampin' Dimensionals for the eye lids are optional.

You can order your kit by emailing me at tanja@spunkycards.com. The cost is $2.00 per Rudolph box plus tax. I would be happy to mail them to you, too.

Christmas Card Stamp Camp on Monday!

I've done lots of talking about the Stamp Camp, it is time for pictures! I have to warn you, the actual cards look much cuter as I am not a master photographer. We'll be using beautiful stamp sets, shimmer paint, the Big Shot, and 3-D design (the first card is just awefully cute). All you have to do, is pick your two or four designs, and I will have the all the materials ready for you, precut and scored, so you can stamp and assemble to your hearts content. Remember to RSVP by Friday!
It's called a stair step card. Since I took the picture this morning,
I have added Real Red ribbon to the front (it runs under the joy and Rudolph's feet)
and it looks spectacular.
This card also looks gorgeous with a bald eagle instead of the cross. We mix shimmer paint with Ballet Blue ink to create this stunning color. Green Galore & Rich Razzleberry! The top note die makes every card elegant. Spray with "magical" shimmer paint to make it stunning.
Rudolph wanted to be part of this Christmas stamp camp too.
Choose your designs and your "start time." Class fee $20 to make 12 cards (six cards of two designs).
You can also combine this with the tile class (see next post).
You can double up your stamp camp and do four designs (24 cards) for $40.

How about half a Pop Up Ball?

I have seen a lot of cute baskets made using the Pillow Box Die and that has gotten my juices flowing and I set out to make a cup. No, I don't have the Pillow Box Die for the Big Shot but I do have the fabulous Pop Up Ball Die and decided to use half of it! I think it turned out great!
~
If you don't cut the parts for the ball in half and follow the assembly instructions, you can make beautiful cards like this one: Can you tell I like this die? It is definitely one of my favorite and I love the fact that I can do "non-traditional" cute things with it. Don't have too much fun stamping without me. Tanja

Funny Friday

I mentioned that we had a big family party last weekend and I have saved this card for today. It is always nice to have a special treat for you on Fridays.
.
This card uses an accordion fold in the middle to hold up a clear window sheet. So as the card opens, at first glance you just see the critters and letters stand up in the middle because they are glued to the window sheet. It is really cool.
.
The crab is holding up a sign and after I attached it to the window sheet, I realized that it sticks out past the card when I fold it up. That's why I added the yellow squares on each side which gives the card some more unusual personalty. On the back the text reads "almost" and in the front "done" as we were celebrating that Frank is almost done with school. Yes, we are a happy bunch!

Have you ever tried a TRIFOLD card?

Good morning! It is a beautiful Monday (at least in my neck of the woods) and I can't wait to get my hands on my stamps this morning. I am eager to make cards for the Valley Center Fall Festival and I thought about taking this week off from blogging so I have more time to make cards. It simply cannot be done. I am here with my cup of coffee and my fingers just couldn't type the words: "I am busy with the Fall Festival, please check back next week with me."
I am sharing one of my newest card templates with you. It is a trifold card and is absolutely stunning. Folded up, the card measures 5 1/2 by 4 1/4 inches just like a "regular" size card. When you open it, it unfolds to this stunning 3 D look. We are going to make this car at my next Stamp Club night, September 15th with my Fabulous Stampers. I cannot wait!

WEIR-D WEDNESDAY

Did you say that jelly beans in a card can't be done?
Stampin' Up! has outdone themselves again (at least in my mind) when they came up with the "Sweet Treat Cup" in the new Holiday Mini Catalog.
The possibilities are unlimited!!! Orange and black for Halloween, earth tones for Thanksgiving, red and green for Christmas, white for the New Year, and pink for Valentines.
I already have my copies of the new Holiday Mini that runs September 1st through January 4th of next year. So call me, email me, come by and have a cup of coffee with me while we pour over the cute new stuff. I have a copy of the new mini waiting for you.
SU! also has added a new collection with Build a Bear stamp sets and die cuts for the Big Shot. Cute stuff!!!
Oops, I almost forgot to link the stamp set: Halloween Hoot

Saturday - How about this cute scrapbook page?

It is time to show a scrapbook page for a change and I pulled out my favorite for you. It is actually my very first scrapbook page that I made for myself. Thanks to moving 10 times in 16 years, we got rid of all of our photo albums and converted to digital picture storage. Well, now we are settling down and it is a joy to plant flowers, shrubs and trees and it is wonderful to see them grow. I absolutely love my garden. I am also falling in love with scrapbooking. I love putting up my scrapbook knowing that we won't pack up to move anytime soon. This page is VERY special to me. It shows pictures from our family reunion in March. The 3-D pop up ball gives the page the WOW effect that this family memory deserves. I actually designed this layout for a class earlier this year. If you are interested in scrapbooking classes or a club that meets monthly, contact me at tanja@spunkycards.com or leave a comment with this post. I'd love to see you at my events. Tanja Supplies for this page: Big Shot, 3-D Pop Up Ball Die Cut, card stock and ink (Barely Banana & Rose Red). The stamp sets have retired. Sorry.

Funny Friday

Aren't these little pillow boxes cute? You can either buy the SU! Pillow Box Die or you can ask me how I make them using my cutter, scorer, scissors and bone folder to score it by hand. Add a few tags and stamps and you have adorable cute pillow boxes. I made these here for Courtney's lunch box. They are large enough for a few M&M's or one small Reeses Cup. When she takes her own lunch, she always gets a chocolate treat and she feels SO LOVED! She says it's magical!
