Adding Glitter to your Project without the mess!

Glitter is so much fun, so how would you like to add it to your project without the mess?  The answer is easy:  Glimmer Paper!
The red Glimmer Paper works so well with both Real Red and Cherry Cobbler paper, almost all the green papers (Pear Pizzaz, Old Olive, …) but one of my favorite combinations is to add it to Pacific Point. This card is simple and yet so elegant.

Instructions:

Are you ready to use Glimmer paper in your projects? Then order it now and keep checking this blog as I will be posting more projects showing off Glimmer Paper next week.

CASE-ing = a creative way to find inspiration

What do you do when you have a stamping kind of “writers block?” How about CASE-ing a project you like? CASE stands for Copy And Share Everything. Lots of times we see something that catches our attention because we like it. Then we take what we like and add our own creative touch. That’s why Stampin’ Up! calls its publications Idea Books since they are just full of amazing projects waiting to be CASEd.

Here is an example of CASE-ing a card. First, the card that is my inspiration. You can find it on page 31 of the new Occasions Mini Catalog:

Now my interpretation using my supplies:

I loved the layout of the Whisper White on the Daffodil Delight with the torn edge on the right and the paper pierced bottom. I used a different stamp set, Four All You Do, and wanted to mix up the colors a little so I used Cherry Cobbler for my flowers as recommended by the Color Coach. When I CASE, I usually do that to get out of my comfort zone. So I love using the Color Coach to recommend color combinations to me. Instead of a yellow brad, I opted for a button from the Brights Designer Buttons. The stem is stamped in Always Artichoke. The butterflies are cut with my favorite Big Shot die, Beautiful Wings.

The Stamp-a-ma-jig, a monster and a Christmas tree!

This year, I am making lots of different Christmas cards instead of sending everyone the same card.  I’ve been having a blast with my Make a Monster and Punch Pals stamp sets as my little monsters are having a lot of fun with the Christmas three.  Here are two of the many cards I stamped:

The girly card on the left is done in all In Colors plus Daffodil Delight. The monster is colored in Poppy Parade and Blushing Bride. The greeting is from the set Four the Holidays.

The card on the right has a masculine feel to it especially when sitting right next to the girly card. I ran a piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock through my Big Shot to give it the wood grain texture (Textured Plates #4) and Pear Pizzazz carstock serves as the card base. I used Cherry Cobbler for the frame of my monster. I think he is going to eat the tree but that’s left to everyone’s imagination. He might just play with it instead. The greeting is from the Short & Sweet stamp set and punched with the 1 ¾ by 7/8 large oval punch.

My secret to combining the tree and the monsters is Stampin' Up!'s Stamp-a-ma-jig.  It is a must have item for any kind of two-step stamping and makes the placement of the images so easy and perfect.

More questions? Leave me a comment or email me. Thanks to new improvements from Stampin’ Up! you can click on the links and see the sets in my online store without having to search for them anymore. Make these adorable sets part of your Christmas by shopping my stamps online!

RUDOLPH WITH CANDY CANE ANTLERS

I have done it again.  My plan for last week was to was to make Christmas cards and share pictures but instead I’ve been making gift items.  In my defense, I can say that my reindeer with the red M&M nose and candy canes for antlers are adorable.  What do you think?

This little reindeer is a perfect gift for teachers, principals, bus drivers, neighbors, …, simply for EVERYONE. He is sure to put a smile on everyone’s face. His face is made with the Top Note Big Shot Die and of course, the nose is one of Stampin’ Up!’s popular Sweet Treat Cups. A few round punches complete the magic.

In my version, the front flips up (like a card but I have to take the candy cane antlers out first) and I have the same sliding door behind the sweet treat cup as I made for the turkey (see the video on the turkey for instructions). Then I added a little box on the inside to the back to hold the candy canes so they don’t slip through.

Would you like to make one with me in my Stamping Studio?

If you are in Wichita, just give me a call to set a time to come by and make one with me. Remember to call me at 305-5207 to enter my Spunky Stamping Heaven!

Supplies to make your Candy Cane Rudolph

Cardstock – Early Espresso, Whisper White, Basic Black
Punches – Circles: 1 ¾” for nose, 1 ¼” for the white in eyes, 1” for pupils
White Gel Pen
Big Shot & Top Note Die

As I said, if you are local, call me to come make one with me. If you are out of town, send me an email and I will shot a video to show you how to make these cute fellows.  I aim to please and your request will be my command.

Thanksgiving Turkey Table Decoration

Decorate your Thanksgiving table with these adorable turkeys filled with candy.  Add a name for place tags or use them as napkin toppers.

These little turkeys have a double back and slider so that you can get to the candy easily. This makes the turkeys reusable for many Thanksgiving dinners to come.

To make the turkeys you need the following tools:

Scallop Circle Punch 2 3/8"
1 ¾ Circle Punch
1 ¼ Circle PunchOval Punch 1 ¾ by 7/8 “
Sweet Treat Cups
Label Punch (optional)
Big Shot & Top Note Die (optional)

I’ve filmed a video for you to see step by step how to make the turkey from beginning to end including the inside slider to fill and empty the candy. It’s about 8 minutes long so pull up a chair and a cup of coffee and make lots of turkeys with me.

Order your sweet treat cup and punches today to have them in time for Thanksgiving. Click here for my online store. Don’t forget to leave me a comment if you enjoy this post and please do pass my blog on to friends and family.

Beautiful and so simple

This card has a little of everything: dry embossed butterflies, faux stitching and a little “punching.” The color combination is really pretty using Daffodil Delight, Night of Navy, Cherry Cobbler, Pear Pizzaz.

The butterflies are cut using the Beautiful Wings die and the Big Shot and the lines aren’t stitched but are drawn by hand using the Uni-ball Signo Gel Pen. This is a great way to get a stitched look without sewing (hence faux stitching). The greeting is from the Short and Sweet set and it is stamped in Not quite Navy on Whisper White Card stock. I punched an oval opening into the card and layered the greeting behind it. The white window background coordinates very nicely with the white stitching on the card.

Monsters at the card club!

We really went to town making MONSTER cards at our August Card Club meeting. The stamp set is just so cute and versatile and I can hardly count the number of different monsters you can create out of these parts:
Stamp Set: Make a Monster (Wood: 118742, Clear: 120606)
It is just so amazing to me how you can make such cute happy, sad, funny, mean, ... monsters. I have made cute children's birthday cards and cards for my hubby where two monsters (he and I) are walking hand in hand. It is just tooooo cute.
This card comes really alive with two things:

I hope you enjoyed this cute card. Here are the colors:

Basic Black & Whisper White

Pear Pizzaz, Poppy Parade, Daffodil Delight & Marina Mist

Remember, my online store, is open 24/7!

Tropical Flower

Pear Pizzaz meets Rich Razzleberry and dazzles with Shimmer Paint Spray!

Our new card stamp club started last week and took off with two beautiful cards. This one came alive through the color combination. We all already liked Rich Razzleberry but the Champagne Shimmer paint really made it come alive.

Our second card used the stamp set "Make a Monster" and you'll have to peek in tomorrow to see it!

See you tomorrow!

DRESS UP YOUR DRINK

The weekend is here and here is my suggestion for a little relaxation:
DRESS UP YOUR DRINK!
My girls were so sweet and brought me a milk shake to my stamping corner and before I could take a single sip, I ran some paper through my Big Shot with the Island Floral Bigz Die (118871) to create the beautiful flowers that I pulled my straw through. I just had to share it with you and so before I took my first drink, I took a quick picture for you.

This is the same die that is responsible for these adorable flowers: Call or email me today to get your die or order it online 24/7 (click shop now in the top right corner).

Island Floral Bigz Die

Hello, my fabulous Stamping Friends, Today I've been enjoying some quiet time to myself in my stamping corner and I have done hardly any stamping! I have been dying to play with my new Island Floral Big Shot Die and while I knew this die would be great with paper, it is amazing with fleece.
This summer, it seems to be really popular to have flowers on everything: hats, scarves, T-shirts, key chains, bags, etc. So this morning, I set out to recreate some of the flowers I’ve seen in the stores and here they are.
The pink and yellow layered flower is really cute and will most likely go on my jean jacket. The two flowers in the front, however, are my favorite. I made several more of them and added them everywhere.
Here it is on a hair piece for Victoria:
Of course, Courtney did not want to be left out, so she got her own hair piece of choice:
Here is the yellow flower again from the top picture. This time it is adorning my Idea Book & Catalog basket.
This simple die really makes some of the most amazing flowers in both paper and fabric. My next blog post will cover the detailed instructions for these 3D flowers but you can also sign up for my Big Shot class on July 26 where you'll be making two of them with me.

Happy Anniversary!

Excitement is running high in the Weir household as today is the second last day of school for the kids before we start summer break. The girls and I can't wait to be out and about without the rigid schedule of school.
That also means that this morning is my second last quiet morning that I have all to myself and so I decided to celebrate by making an anniversary card for my sister in law, Cathy, and her hubby, Frank.
I started with a cup of coffee and the bird punch and Whisper White paper. After a few minutes of playing around, I added the swirly strip (one of the fabulous Big Shot dies) and the background paper from the Sale-A-Brations DP pack. On that note, with the arrival of the new Idea Book only a few months away, I recommend that everyone stocks up on their favorite Designer Series Paper before it's gone.
The color of the background is really out of my comfort zone (which is Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry) but I really like it. I added the buttons and loved it. So then came the assembly. I tied the button in the front but didn't like that at all. The bows became the focal point which distracted from the birds. So I took the buttons back off and just ran the thread through them which is much more my style. It's a nice clean look where the buttons add to the whole rather than being the center of attention. Finally, I decided I needed a greeting but didn't really want to stamp so I got out my Big Shot alphabet die and cut out LOVE.
Oh, I almost forgot. I shaded the birds with chalk from the Stampin' Pastels to give them a bit of dimension. The wings are attached to the body with a Stampin' Dimensional and the bird itself is attached to the card with a Stampin' Dimensional as well. That makes them pop out a little more.
Now I wish I could slip myself in the envelope to see Cathy and Frank's faces when they open their card. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. You can also browse (and buy) all these items in my 24/7 online SU! store. Don't have too much fun stamping without me! Tanja

Butterflies are taking over!!!

Good morning, my fabulous stampers!
What a beautiful day. The birds are singing, the girls are at school, and the

BUTTERFLIES ARE TAKING OVER!

Victoria's music program is this morning and for the past two weeks, she has been telling me that she needs to wear a white T-shirt and jeans today. Sounds easy, right? There is only one slight problem: my beautiful girl is very girly and she does NOT like JEANS. She loves dresses and leggins and therefore we do not own any jeans in her size.
As you know me, I don't buy things that will be used only once and so I was hunting through the house and I FOUND a pair of jeans (hurray!) that Courtney (V's big sis) wore years ago and they are great with the exception of two small holes.
Can you tell? I was going to sew felt flowers from the flower fusion set onto the pants to hide the holes but Victoria didn't go for it. She suggested butterflies and I took her up on the challenge. We put some cute HOT PINK material and placed it in the beautiful wings embosslit die, ran it through the Big Shot and schwupsdiewups (can't help it, my German is coming through), we had butterfly patches.
Aren't they cute? If I had fabric glue on hand, I would have glued them on. But since I didn't, I spent a few minutes last night sewing them on. This morning, I had a very excited Victoria who is wearning jeans to school for the very first time. :)
Why don't you give it a try?
Don't have too much fun stamping without me. Tanja

Spring Birthdays

We seem to be in the kids' birthday season. Victoria's birthday is this week and last week she was invited to her twin friends' party.
Of course, we had to make special birthday cards for Colby and Ellie! Here are the details:
Ellie's card
  • Paper: Whisper White, Melon Mambo, matching Designer Series Paper.
  • Big Shot: Top Note for the insert and the natural serif die for the letters.
  • Punches: Two Step Bird (from the current mini, so it's only available until the end of THIS month).
  • Other: Eyelets, yarn, and sponges to offset the bird a bit.

Colby's card

  • Paper: Whisper White, Dusty Durango, matching Designer Series Paper.
  • Big Shot: Top Note for the insert and the natural serif die for the letters.
  • Stamp Set: Animal Stories.
  • Other: Jumbo eyelets, ribbon, brads.

As always, don't have too much fun stamping without me.

Birthday Party Invitations

I cannot believe my baby is turning six this month. It seems like yesterday that I brought her home from the hospital. Wow!
Needless to say, I am making her birthday party invitations and I wish that I had SU!'s My Digital Studio. I first ran my Whisper White cardstock through my printer to print the text "Victoria is turning 6" onto the cardstock and then I ran it through again for the inside party information. It took me a while to match the colors to the Taken with Teal, Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry with my computer software and of course, they aren't exact matches. With My Digital Studio I would have all of SU!'s colors and lots of images, fonts and extras plus all kinds of downloads to compliment all of our crafting. It is a wonderful way to "digitally stamp" and you can print your creations right at home or have it printed for you.
Now, the bottom part of the card is handcrafted as I always do.
  • The Taken with Teal was run through the Big Shot with one of my textured plates.
  • The flower is from a retired set (one of Victoria's favorites) and I used the Stamp-a-ma-jig to line up for my "two step stamping." I am not sure how I managed to live without it. When I first got this flower set, I always eye-balled the second stamp placement and it NEVER looked this good.
  • The ribbon is the 1/2 inch polka-dot grosgrain ribbon Rich Razzleberry (Can you see me dance? Rich Razzleberry is going to stay as part of the color renovation taking place with the arrival of the new Idea Book & Catalog this summer).
  • The butterflies are cut in Melon Mambo using the Beautiful Wings embosslits die (Remember this die is in the mini catalog which runs out at the end of April and it is not in the new mini that starts May 1. So order it while you can).
Well, I am off to finish the other invitations for all of Victoria's guests. I just couldn't wait to post this one first. Don't have too much fun stamping without me!

March Card Club

This month, we made a "folded frame" card (left) and an "easel" card (right) and both turned out great.

Folded frame card: We sized the DSP (Designer Series Paper) to be 4 by 4 inches so that we could get 12 pieces out of one sheet of DSP. This is a really great layout when you need 6 or 12 similar cards but each will look a bit different since it will use a different section or side of the DSP. Fun!!! Of course, the "Things I love" stamp is perfect for this card.

Easel card: Who wouldn't be thrilled to get a card in the mail that stands up like an easel. This layout is AWESOME to use for pictures. I am going to make one that is a bit larger for my Grandfather in Germany with the girls' school pictures. For this card, we stamped the background flowers with the "Vintage Vogue" stamps in Elegant Eggplant, Appricot Appeal, and Sage Shadow. Very pretty! The butterflies are cut with the Big Shot (Beautiful Wings Embosslits Die) and I used the textured plates with the Big Shot to imprint the paisley pattern into my paper for the background. Sorry, it's hard to see the background on my pic.

As always, we also had a challenge going for our card club and this month was pretty easy because we decided that "any card" would be welcome. Traci, Deanna and Debra made cards and here they are:

We have great plans for next month. We'll be making one card using the emboss resist technique and for our second card, I am working on putting a soda can through the Big Shot. We'll find out in April if I've perfected the technique enough that we are all doing it at our club night.

Happy Dance!

This morning, I truly enjoyed doing the happy dance. My girls were home 3 days from school last week, followed by the weekend and a snow day yesterday and I was READY for them to get on the bus this morning. As soon as the bus was out of sight, I did my little happy dance routine, went back in the house, fixed a cup of coffee and enjoyed the silence. My "have to" and "want to" do lists have grown exponentially over the past 6 days and I picked an item from the "want to do list" first: a Valentine's gift for one of the teachers at Victoria's school. The cocktail glass is dressed up for the occasion with Rub On flowers in Whisper White and 1/4 inch Grosgrain Ribbon in Real Red that I secured with a Rhinestone Brad. I filled the glass with mints that have little toppers. I first scored Whisper White card stock and then punched out circles with the 1 3/8 inch punch. As I punched the circles I kept the score line in the middle. I find it easier to score the paper first and then punch rather than punching the circle and then trying to score it in the middle without it wiggling around on me. The heart on the toppers is from the Short and Sweet set. I stamped with Basic Black ink and colored it in with Real Red from the Stampin' Pastels.
Here is a close up of the mints.
I got the idea for the mints from my fellow SU! Demonstrator Brenda. She is so creative and used the Curly Label punch for her toppers. She let me make a few too. I am completely hooked now and have added that punch to my wish list. But I also like the simple half round toppers too. They are all cute!
There is no limit to the imagination. The butterflies are cut with the Beautiful Wings Embosslits Die. The greetings from the two inside mints are from the Level 1 Hostess Set, Picture This.
If there is anything I can help you with in your Valentine's endeavors, feel free to call me.
Don't have too much fun without me, Tanja
